Newcastle upon Tyne has always been a city of strength, history and character, which is why I wanted to move beyond architectural accuracy and instead capture some of its spirit. The iconic Swing Bridge guides the eye towards the Castle Keep, connecting two iconic landmarks from different periods in history. Bathed in light and colour, the painting celebrates a city that honours its past while continually evolving towards its future. In the end, I realised I wasn't painting buildings at all; I was painting home.
